Discovering God

“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.” -Proverbs 3:13-15 NIV

From the day we are born until the day we die we are always experiencing and learning new things. It doesn’t matter if you want to experience new things. It doesn’t even matter if you are trying too. Every day is a new day and you can’t re-live the same day twice. As a baby you experience life from the perspective of a baby, as an old person you have a different perspective and experience. Unfortunately because of lack of true understanding, many people are led astray by “what seems right.”

Most of my life was spent trying to figure out life by studying life. That led me to what I thought was wisdom and understanding, but it lacked the ultimate truth— which leads to abundant life and eternal purpose. The wisdom of this world will teach you that life is meaningless, and at the end of every tunnel is death. The wisdom of God is revealed through eternal love, and it was demonstrated by Jesus Christ. God’s wisdom and understanding unleashes people into their destiny and opens up the gates of creativity and purpose. When we are separated from God we step out of creativity, love, joy, peace.. etc. When those things are lost we operate more like drones set to autopilot rather than the children of God.

Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly, but in order to walk in that life we must abide in Him! Abiding in God is like a constant state of discovery. Sometimes I like to think of my journey with God as an archeological dig site— the more time I spend in the presence of God reading His Word I’m uncovering new revelations. But just like an archeological site, if I don’t continue to dig, clean, and uncover new things the site will eventually be lost because of dust, dirt and overgrown plants and trees.

God is longing for communion with us, that’s why He laid down His life! Relationship is the reason Jesus came and died. Our journey of discovering who God is and how to abide in relationship with Him is simple, but it takes intentionality. It’s simple, because our only “job” is to have faith in Jesus and the finished work done on the cross. It’s intentional because if we are lazy in our relationship with Jesus, it gives the devil an opportunity to steal, kill, and destroy our relationship. “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12 NIV

“Perfect Peace doesn’t come from perfect circumstances. Perfect Peace is the result of Knowing your right standing with God through Jesus Christ. Jesus wasn’t crucified so you could have peace with men, He was crucified so you could have peace with God!”
