Knowing God is the only thing truly worth living for. Nothing else compares to Him, and no reward carries real value if it’s not eternal. This life may feel like it’s everything but the reality is we are living in a shadow of what life truly is. Putting our hope and trust in this life is such a terrible deception. This life will end like a mist, and every possession from this life will slip out of our fingertips like sand. That lie is where the enemy has built his throne. He wants us to believe this life is more than a mist.
The liar is always trying to convince us to build our house on the sand. His strategy is to convince us that the rock(Heaven) is sand and the sand(life on earth) is a rock. He wants us to push all our chips into the middle for this life and enter into eternity broke.
Here are some of the thoughts I’ve identified as “sand” thoughts..
1) I’m going to miss out on the fun… (How can I truly miss out on something if I’m going to live forever?!)
2) I don’t have enough money/resources… (God created everything and I’m going to live in his kingdom forever.)
3) My health is failing me… (This one is probably the most ridiculous! It blows my mind that I could be gullible enough to believe I’m having health problems when I’ve been given ETERNAL LIFE!?)
These are a few of the lies we get wrapped up in— but they are incredibly weak when you process them in light of eternity! One way to respond when these thoughts come is just to stand in your eternal identity and say “I’m not sure how to respond to that right now, but I’ll get back to you in 1000 years.”
Another way is to use the “sandy” thought is as a reminder for the rock solid eternal heavenly thought.
When the enemy says you are sick, don’t even acknowledge him. Just be reminded that God is the strength of your life and he said you’re never going to die!
When the enemy says you are in poverty ignore him! The earth is the Lords and all its fullness— you are his son/daughter. Just be reminded of this amazing truth: not only will you never die, you will never lack anything ever again(even if you can’t see it yet.)
The enemy of our souls is on a very limited time frame. His destiny is already set and it’s not a pretty one! He only knows how to speak lies, and he is constantly trying to convince Christians to adopt his mindset. His thoughts are always coming from a short term, poverty, decaying, death mindset. Whenever you have thoughts pop into your head that sound like the devils headspace, turn your heart and praise God that you are eternal, not lacking, thriving and always alive. We are not a people who live by sight, we live by faith!
