Holy Spirit come…

Holy Spirit come…

“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” -Hebrews‬ ‭12:28-29‬

What we see gets us in trouble

Does chaos around you produce chaos inside you? I think most people would say yes to that question. For most of my life that was normal. The atmosphere around me impacted my response to life more than the Holy Spirit. I can’t say I have arrived, but I want to share with you a revelation that has transformed my life.

Since I was born I was trained by the things I could see and feel. It’s completely normal to grow up that way, but that’s why I needed to be born again and retrained by faith in Jesus.

When Jesus walked on the earth He demonstrated what life looks like when it’s completely submitted to the will of God and the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was faced with trials he never allowed the chaos around Him to produced chaos inside him.

Retrained by God

Too often circumstances plays a negative role on my response to life. When circumstances define my life, rather than God,  it is a clear sign I’m not seeing clear.

The power of God is always greater than the power at work in this world. In Colossians 2:9-10 it says, “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.”

God is all powerful, and he filled me with Himself! If God lives inside me, yet I have feelings that don’t come from Him, I need to discover the root of those feelings.

In Romans 12:2 it says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

And in Hosea 4:6 it says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” Growing in God means transforming the way you think about and approach life. Transformation isn’t about trying harder to get our flesh to do the right thing. Transformation is about giving ourselves wholly to God and learning who we are in Christ.

For so many years I was hindered in my growth because my own understanding of truth. Unsettled belief in Gods character was destroying every avenue of breakthrough. God was at work within me, but I was allowing life to potter me instead of Christ inside me.

Belief paves the path in front of you: “Walk by faith and not by sight.”

When our belief is unsettled we are at risk of believing a lie. Growing up in the world we learned to make decisions based on what we see. As believers God has not called us to live based on what we see but to live according to the hope we have in Christ by faith. The Holy Spirit teaches us the Word of God so by faith we can live through a new lens. This is especially important because often times what we see is contrary to our hope.

All it takes to derail the power of God from flowing out of our lives is an unhealthy perspective. Remember, it was the serpent who ushered temptation into the world by speaking a lie. Death didn’t come until Adam believed the lie. Satan is the “Father of lies” and unfortunately he has held a monopoly on fathering the world ever since the fall of man. That is until Jesus came and gave us access to a new father!

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

Here are a two keys that I believe will guide you into greater levels of freedom:

  1. Worst case scenario- God hasn’t changed and He still lives inside you! Your life is still hidden in Christ with God and your eternal destination is the Kingdom of Heaven. You are going to live forever. God is your provider and you will never lack. (Col. 3:3, Heb. 13:8, Rom. 8:10, John 14:2, John 3:16, Eph. 3:20).
  2. Best case scenario- The miraculous power of God transforms your circumstances and the world around you. Everyone who was there with you becomes a witness to the transforming miraculous power of God and they can’t stop talking about how good God is! (Matt. 19:26, Isa. 55:11, 1 Cor. 4:20, Luke 5:15)

Keep your eyes fixed

Staying free happens when your eyes are focused on Jesus and the Kingdom of Heaven. If your eyes and heart are fixed on Jesus you will always be moving closer to Him. And the closer you get to Jesus the more you will be like Him.

Jesus is the perfect picture of what love looks like. He is the image of God made flesh and we have been commissioned and empowered to multiply his image! The fire of God burns with love and passion for His children. He won’t force himself into your life, love doesn’t work that way. He enters in by invitation.

The old ways of thinking can be compared to trees deeply rooted within you. Our God is a consuming fire. Just like a forest fire will destroy everything it touches– when you give the Holy Spirit access to your heart He will remove everything that doesn’t belong. As soon as the old dies, new growth is on its way.

Transformation will flood your life when you choose to hold onto hope even in the midst of life’s most unfortunate circumstances. Trials will no longer define you. You will become a branch on God’s tree that produces fruit in every season of life.

I hope this article blesses you you.

“Perfect Peace doesn’t come from perfect circumstances. Perfect Peace is the result of knowing your right standing with God through Jesus Christ. Jesus wasn’t crucified so you could have peace with men, He was crucified so you could have peace with God!”
